ENGLISH STANDARD VERSION

Apocrypha

CAMBRIDGE BIBLE

"'Apocrypha' means 'hidden things', and describes books which were not accepted into the Hebrew Canon, but which survive in the Greek Scriptures. They were written in the period between the Old and New Testaments. Though the Apocrypha were often included in the Bible, their inclusion declined in the seventeenth century as they were seen to be deuterocanonical. The Apocrypha still hold value for study and spiritual enrichment. This edition includes the same eighteen books as the RSV Apocrypha, including Tobit, 1-4 Maccabees, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Judith, Baruch, Psalm 151, and additions to Esther and Daniel. Like the ESV Bible, the translation of these books strives for accuracy, providing an essentially literal word-for-word approach to the original texts. This attractive edition will be valuable for exploring these texts and enriching understanding of the history and thought of the Jewish people during the centuries leading up to the birth of Christ." - Amazon

Biblical Demonology: A Study of Spiritual Forces at Work Today

MERRILL F UNGER

"A classic work on the subject of demons and the spirit world, Biblical Demonology explores the scriptural teaching on satanic forces in a systematic fashion. After a thorough introduction on the origin of biblical demonology and a discussion on the reality and identity of demons, Merrill F. Unger tackles several specific practices of demonology, including demon possession, magic, divination, and deliverance from demonic oppression. Recognized as one of the twentieth century's most influential evangelical Bible scholars, Unger provides a study of the invisible spiritual forces behind the scenes of contemporary history that is scholarly yet accessible to both Christian leaders and Christian readers." - Amazon

The Encyclopedia of Demons and Demonology

ROSEMARY ELLEN GUILEY

"Brief entries and illustrations introduce topics including individually named demons from a variety of cultures, historical figures, films, and cases of possession." - Amazon

Encyclopedia of Demons in World Religions and Cultures

THERESA BANE

"This exhaustive volume catalogs nearly three thousand demons in the mythologies and lore of virtually every ancient society and most religions. From Aamon, the demon of life and reproduction with the head of a serpent and the body of a wolf in Christian demonology, to Zu, the half-man, half-bird personification of the southern wind and thunder clouds in Sumero-Akkadian mythology, entries offer descriptions of each demon's origins, appearance and cultural significance. Also included are descriptions of the demonic and diabolical members making up the hierarchy of Hell and the numerous species of demons that, according to various folklores, mythologies, and religions, populate the earth and plague mankind. Very thoroughly indexed." - Amazon

Grimorium Verum

JOSEPH H PETERSON

"Grimorium Verum is one of the most notorious handbooks of black magic -- one of the few that deals openly with spirits of darkness. People have long sought the aid of non-physical beings; the biblical king Solomon in particular had a reputation since ancient times for commanding demons. There are many texts purporting to reveal Solomon's methods, but most are extremely complicated and difficult. Grimorium Verum is one of the easier texts, but also one of the most sinister. It includes a catalog of specific demons and how to draw on their powers. This new critical edition includes a fresh translation based on all the major sources, complete French and Italian texts, and 5 other appendices." - Amazon

The Devils and Evil Spirits of Babylonia: Babylonian and Assyrian Incantations Against Demons, Schools, Vampires, Hobgoblins, Ghosts, and Kindred Evil Spirits

R CAMPBELL THOMPSON

"Written by R. Campbell Thompson London, June 1st, 1903. From the earliest times Eastern races, in common with the rest of mankind, have always held a firm belief in the existence of evil spirits, ghosts, and all kindred powers. The phenomenon of death, the mystery of disease and sickness, and all the other events of common occurrence in daily life gave rise to speculations about the unseen world, which gradually led to a distinction, although slight at all times, between good and evil spirits." - Amazon

Forbidden Rites: A Necromancer’s Manual of the Fifteenth Century (Magic in History)

RICHARD KIECKHEFER

"Preserved in the Bavarian State Library in Munich is a manuscript that few scholars have noticed and that no one in modern times has treated with the seriousness it deserves. Forbidden Rites consists of an edition of this medieval Latin text with a full commentary, including detailed analysis of the text and its contents, discussion of the historical context, translation of representative sections of the text, and comparison with other necromantic texts of the late Middle Ages. The result is the most vivid and readable introduction to medieval magic now available." - Amazon
